Respect Mural Project

The first Respect Mural was done at the Oconto Falls Elementary School the 21 22, 25, 26, & 27 of Septmeber 2006. It was a five day residency in which husband and wife team Skip Jones and Judy Gosz helped 540 students and the entire school staff to create and place their own images onto the 25'x5' acrylic mural that now hangs in the school, reminding everyone, everyday, how important it is to teach each other with respect. A portion of this residency included the "Hands Project", watch the video below to see parts of that session

The Process:

1. In school meeting with teachers and staff members to discuss the project plans and goals.

2. Opening concert for the students and staff by Skip Jones to present the project concept.

3. ____ classes and ____ grade levels worked together to turn their individual images into one large art piece representing themselves, their school, and their feelings about how to share respect with each other.

4. Mural hung by the custodial staff.

5. Unveiling ceremony and concert to celebrate the hard work and effort of everyone involved.

6. Finally the mural was varnished by the staff to preserve it.
